Acetates & Esters

Butyl Diglycol Acetate Butyl

Butyl Diglycol Acetate (BDGA), chemically known as Diethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether Acetate (CAS: 124-17-4), is a high-boiling, slow-evaporating ester solvent characterized by its clear, colorless appearance and mild, fruity odor. As a member of the glycol ether ester family, BDGA possesses a unique molecular structure that combines ether and ester functional groups, providing superior solvency for a diverse range of natural and synthetic resins, including nitrocellulose, epoxy, acrylics, and urethanes.

Its most defining industrial characteristic is its extremely low volatility, which makes it an indispensable “tailing solvent” in high-performance coatings and printing inks. BDGA is particularly valued for its high flash point, which significantly enhances process safety during manufacturing and storage compared to more volatile solvents. With limited water solubility and excellent miscibility with organic solvents, it facilitates the production of high-quality, high-gloss finishes and ensures optimal film formation in both solvent-borne and water-reducible systems.
