Diphenylamine (DPA), identified by CAS number 122-39-4, is an organic compound belonging to the secondary aromatic amine class. Structurally, it consists of two phenyl groups linked by an amine bridge ($C_{12}H_{11}N$). In its pure form, diphenylamine appears as colorless to white monoclinic crystals; however, industrial grades often exhibit a tan or yellowish hue due to oxidation from light and air exposure. It is characterized by a weak, floral odor and is nearly insoluble in water but readily soluble in many organic solvents, including ethanol, ether, and benzene.

Diphenylamine is a versatile chemical intermediate primarily valued for its antioxidant and stabilizing properties. It plays a critical role in preventing the oxidative degradation of polymers, lubricants, and rubber.
